DENIC Executive Board Member Andreas Musielak has been re-elected as Chair of the Standing Committee on Strategic and Operational Planning (SOPC) of the Country Code Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO) within ICANN for a second term.
Andreas Musielak has been a member of the SOPC since 2016, representing the interests of the ccTLD community, the registry for .de domains DENIC eG, and its members with great expertise and dedication. He took over as Chair of the committee in 2022 and will now continue in this role for another three years.
About the ccNSO and SOPC
Since its establishment in 2003, the ccNSO (Country Code Names Supporting Organisation) has provided a platform for managers of country code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) to exchange ideas and discuss topics of global relevance to ccTLDs within ICANN.
As Chair of the Standing Committee on Strategic and Operational Planning (SOPC) of the ccNSO, Andreas Musielak will continue to advocate the interests of the ccTLD community in ICANN’s strategic and operational planning processes. A key focus will remain on ensuring transparency and efficiency in planning and budget management.
Another goal is to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration within the ccTLD community. Andreas Musielak seeks to strengthen the active engagement of ccTLD registries in ICANN processes and bring the global perspective of the ccNSO to central topics such as policy development, technological innovation, and internet governance. Through his experience and commitment, he aims to ensure ICANN’s strategic direction remains future-proof and capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital world.
Andreas Musielak is delighted to take on this leadership role for another term and expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him:
“The digital world is evolving rapidly. Forward-thinking planning is becoming increasingly important, especially as ICANN faces new challenges due to revenue declines for the first time in its history. My goal as Chair is to ensure efficient strategic and operational processes and transparency for the internet community regarding the associated budget in the years to come. The strong participation of ccTLDs, with their extensive expertise, makes a vital contribution to the work of the SOPC.”
The ccNSO serves as a platform for knowledge and experience sharing among country code registries (ccTLDs) and the promotion of voluntary best practices for ccTLD managers. Additionally, it develops global policies on a limited number of topics, which are then recommended to the ICANN Board.
The activities of the ccNSO are mainly organised through working groups and committees, such as the Strategic and Operational Planning Standing Committee (SOPC). Managers and staff from all ccTLD registries are welcome to participate. The SOPC aims to coordinate and encourage ccTLD managers’ involvement in ICANN’s strategic and operational planning processes.
