Members and Tasks of the Working Group
DENIC’s NIS 2 Working Group was launched in early 2023. Its mission: to investigate the requirements of the NIS2 with a view to the needs of domain managers and develop arguments and recommendations how to implement these. The focal point was Article 28 of the revised Directive for ensuring a high common level of cyber security across the European Union (NIS 2). The issues to be considered included in particular the validation and verification of the domain holder data and the obligations regarding the publication of whois data.
The working group was a true cooperative project. In five sessions, interested members representing the various business models of domain registration service providers had the possibility to bring in their perspective.
Results
The results now presented by the group shall provide an orientation how the requirements of the NIS 2 Directive can be implemented technically and legally in the registry for .de domains. A binding proposal can only be made once the NIS 2 Implementation Act has been fully adopted under German law.
New working groups for the next steps
DENIC has established two new working groups for working out such a proposal. One will deal with the legal aspects, the other with the technical implementation. Both groups already held a kick-off meeting in January.
