In today's dynamic digital world, DENIC, the operator of .de domains, plays a key role in driving innovation and promoting the interests of the internet community. Given the ever-growing challenges in the area of cyber security and changing regulatory requirements, DENIC is placing a strong emphasis on events. They serve as platforms for knowledge exchange, networking, and promoting internet security, particularly in relation to the EU NIS 2 Directive.
Why DENIC events are essential
For DENIC, events are far more than just opportunities to present technical developments. They are a central part of our efforts to position DENIC as an active and committed partner in the digital world. Our events bring together industry experts, policymakers, regulators, and our partners to discuss the future of the internet, DNS security, and the challenges of domain management.
In the past, DENIC events were primarily technical, with a strong focus on the implementation of new technologies and solutions. However, as the digital landscape has evolved, so has our approach. Today, our events are more diverse, incorporating topics such as regulatory requirements, innovative security solutions, and strategic developments that are relevant to all stakeholders in the domain market.
DENIC’s diverse event program: sharing knowledge and strengthening connections
DENIC is involved in a variety of event formats that are tailored to the needs of the internet community and the domain industry. These events not only serve as a place for exchange but also provide opportunities to forge strategic alliances and share DENIC’s expertise.
• Industry events: At international conferences such as ICANN meetings, CloudFest, or Domain Pulse, DENIC takes the opportunity to demonstrate its leading role in domain management and DNS security. These events are not only important for technical exchange but also for building relationships within the global internet community.
• Member events: Our internal events, such as the annual General Assembly, provide a crucial platform for engaging with our members, understanding their concerns, and collaboratively developing solutions for future challenges. Key topics include the development of the organisation and our strategic orientation.
• Collaborative and networking events: The "German Night" we organise in cooperation with our partner association eco during the ICANN meetings is an excellent example of our commitment to networking. This event is designed to foster the informal exchange between industry experts and decision-makers and offers a great opportunity to establish new contacts and strengthen existing relationships.
• IGF-D Secretariat: Since the end of 2022, DENIC has been leading the Secretariat of the Internet Governance Forum Germany (IGF-D), organising and sponsoring various events in the German internet governance sector. An example of these events is the biannual Jimmy Schulz Dinner, which aims to promote the exchange between the various stakeholder groups, particularly that with members of parliament.
Intensifying the focus on cyber security and the NIS 2 Directive
One of our current top priorities is the implementation of the NIS 2 Directive of the European Union, which aims to strengthen cyber security of critical infrastructures across Europe. Cyber security is not just a technical issue; it also involves regulatory, economic, and societal aspects that are crucial to the future of digital infrastructure.
DENIC began as early as 2022 to prepare its members and registrars for the new NIS 2 requirements through targeted webinars, workshops, and training programs. Our goal is to provide industry players with the knowledge and tools they need to meet the high standards of data security.
As a key element of these efforts, we developed an address verification module to ensure that domain holder data is accurate and verifiable.
Long-term goals: building trust and promoting dialogue
Through our diverse engagement in the event landscape, we aim to build long-term relationships with our members, partners, and the entire internet community. We firmly believe that open dialogue and knowledge exchange provide the best foundation for jointly developing innovative solutions to meet the challenges of the digital future.
Our events not only offer expert insights and discussions on current issues in cyber security and DNS technology but also provide opportunities for direct contact with decision-makers and experts. This combination of informal networking and in-depth knowledge transfer is key to our strategy of building trust in our expertise and positioning ourselves as a reliable partner in the digital world.
